What exactly do we do?

Mission:
The School Counseling Department at SAU 74 is dedicated to improving the quality of education at our school, by addressing the academic, vocational, and social/emotional needs of all our students.
As counselors, we work to meet these needs in developmentally appropriate ways that enable personal growth and academic success. We are accessible to all students.
Specific services that all counselors provide are as follows:

- Promoting positive attitudes among students towards self, family, peers and community.
- Assisting students in learning how school performance relates to future opportunities.
- Developing and delivering classroom guidance lessons that teach skills such as decision making, resolving conflict and respecting others.
- Working with students, parents and school staff to identify learning needs and to design interventions to enhance student success.
- Helping students to recognize and make the best of their abilities.
- Providing support during a personal crisis.
- Working with students on attendance issues.
- Coordinating referrals to outside agencies.
- Developing student career awareness.
- Helping to create a safe and positive learning experience.

- Provide assistance for parents and students with support and information during the transition process from elementary to middle school and middle to high school.
